So cute

I left the house feeling kind of glum today because my kids didn't have school, but I had to go to work. Of course, they were doing the "Mommy, please don't go!" bit which makes it that much harder. Well, I got this email from my sweetie that really made my day. It said:

Hi mommy,

We love you.
Dad is working our butt off... (says Hayley).
I ate some chocolate... (says Ryeley).
Dad took us to the store to get a candy.... (says Hayley).
Mommy, I tomorrow, lots of days when sisters are at school, I will watch a movie.... (says Jaycey).

Have a good day,

love Dad

The Story of 3 Princesses and Their Hair

I found this website on one of my friend’s blogs: http://hair4myprincess.blogspot.com/

It is awesome. This lady is absolutely amazing and she teaches how to do the hairstyles to boot! We (my girls and I) have been perusing the blog and I finally learned how to weave ribbon into my girl’s hair. I’ve also picked up quite a few tidbits from her. I can do braids, but they get boring after a while. This site has tons of ideas on what to do with hair. I love it! The girls are pretty excited, too. They’ll look at the pictures and say, “Ooh, I want that one!” I’ve included 3 pictures of the hairstyles we did on Sunday. Two of them I adapted from stuff on her website. The other one (the twist) is a classic that’ll never die.

Little Gems

Okay, these are a few things that happened in the last week or two that I thought were funny. (Yes, I know I have a warped sense of humor but sometimes you have to find joy wherever it pops up.)

I was digging the depths of my purse to find something. I pulled out my miniature laminated periodic table and asked Brian if he wanted to use it. Brian looked at me and said, “I can honestly say I’ve never once needed a mini laminated periodic chart.” We both started laughing.

We were at the table having family home evening and Hayley told Jaycey she was a weirdo. Jaycey looked at her and said, “But I don’t want to be a rear-doe!” We all started laughing and she got even more upset and kept protesting the rear-doe thing.

In Sunday school, the teacher was giving a lesson on having good marital relationships. He asked the question, “What can husbands and wives do to delight in each other?” after reading about that in the scriptures. One lady raised her hand and said, “Intimacy.” The teacher turned scarlet because he was so embarrassed. I had to put my head down and cover my mouth because I was laughing so hard. The lady that said it speaks up again and says, “What? Did I say something wrong? I just got a terrible look from someone. Isn’t that a really important principle that the Lord has given us?” She kept going on like that for a bit. I thought I was going to die laughing. Then, after the class she went up to whomever had given her the look and started discussing how important intimacy was to the Lord’s plan and blah, blah, blah. Most people were really embarrassed and uncomfortable, but I thought it was funny!

One of my employees came into my office the other day and asked me if I’d like a bottle of lotion that she had. She told me that she had been using it for a few days faithfully on her hands three times a day. Then, she realized it was tanning lotion! Oops. I couldn’t help it. I started laughing and asked her if she had been tanning her hands. She says, “Well, not on purpose.” Okay, that was funny, but what made it even better was that for once it wasn’t me.

The girls decided to do a project on Sunday after lunch. They made these great big leprechaun hats. I didn’t realize they’d made them 3-D until I went upstairs and saw all their bears were wearing green hats. Heaven help us, they are absolutely my kids.

Jaycey was playing (or arguing, it’s pretty much the same thing) with her sisters on Saturday. We hear her say, “Don’t Hayley, you’ll mess up my hair.” Brian looks at me and I say, “That’s my girl.” Then a few minutes later we hear her say, “Ryeley, no you need to do it my way.” Brian and I both start laughing and I say, “Yes, definitely my girl.”

What do you say?

So, I have a friend that doesn’t like to be asked if everything is okay. That’s kind of a standard question for me to ask people, so I’m not really sure how to approach her. Today, she yelled at me for even asking if she was doing okay. So, my question is what do you say? Is asking if everything is okay rude? For most people, I would just ask what they thought was appropriate, but with her I never seem to do anything right, so I feel awkward even asking her what it is that she expects. I’ve always been somewhat socially retarded (see lab coat blog below) so I could really use some suggestions!

Embarrassing Mom

I’ve been pretty busy at work lately and spending quite a few hours away from home. Last Thursday evening, Brian and the girls came to Albion so we could have dinner together. I was wearing my lab coat when they arrived. My two older girls came running up to me and said, “Mom, what are you wearing?” Well, I always have my lab coat on, so it kind of took me by surprise. I guess they don’t see me wearing it ever, even though it seems more a part of me than not. They said that I look like Albert Einstein. That was cute. This morning, we were talking about it and I showed them the lab coat that I have at home from my clinical days. Hayley says, “Mom, that’s just freaky.” Hmmm, I guess it never has been hip to be a nerd. Oh well, what do you do? I guess being the embarrassing Mom starts earlier than I anticipated!
